Skin tags are small, soft, flesh-coloured or darker growths that hang off your skin. They’re very common and harmless, but they can be removed if you feel they’re bothering you. They are commonly found on the neck, underarms, groin and eyelids. Skin tags are made up of loose collagen fibres and blood vessels surrounded by skin. Collagen is a type of protein found throughout the body.
Skin tags shouldn’t be confused with common warts. One way to tell them apart is that skin tags are usually smooth and soft, whereas warts tend to be rougher with an irregular surface. Skin tags also tend to be knobbly and hang off the skin, while warts are usually slightly raised or flat.
