This prescriptive solution is a growth treatment for eyelash lengthening. Applied once at night to the base of the upper lashes it stimulates the growth phase of the hair follicle and the number of hairs in this phase.

Treatment can result in longer lashes after 4 weeks and full growth in 16 weeks. The active ingredient is Bitamoprost. Allergan (a pharmaceutical company with 60 years eye care experience) developed this product in 2001. Initially used in the treatment of raised ocular pressure (glaucoma), users noticed their eyelashes grew thicker and longer. Further trials proved the active ingredient bitamoprost specifically stimulates the growth of eyelashes.

Simple to use following the specific guidelines however please remember:

  • It should be applied at night.
  • Only use special applicators to apply the product
  • Do not allow the tip of the bottle or applicator to touch fingers or other unintended surfaces as contamination buy common bacteria is a know cause of infection
  • Remove contact lenses prior to applying. Contact lenses may be reinserted after 15 mins.
  • Remember if you stop using it, your lashes will gradually return to their previous appearance.

Side effects

Side effects are minimal if any.

Itching after application with some redness in the eye (4% of clinical trial patients). Less commonly skin darkening, eye irritation, dryness of the eyes and redness of the eyelids. If you develop a new ocular condition (trauma/infection), experience a sudden decrease in vision, have ocular surgery or develop and ocular reactions (including conjunctivitis and eye lid reactions) you should immediately seek your doctor’s advice concerning the continued use.

Special warnings
  • Eyelash lengthening  treatment is intended for use on the skin of the upper eyelid margins at the base of the eyelashes. If you have a history of abnormal elevated intraocular pressure or glaucoma you should only use under close supervision of your doctor. DO NOT APPLY TO THE LOWER LID.
  • It may cause darkening of the eyelid skin which may be irreversible. May cause increased brown iris pigmentation (the coloured part of the eye) which is likely to be permanent. This is very rare.
  • It is possible for hair growth to occur in other areas of your skin that the product frequently touches. Any excess solution outside the upper eyelid margin should be blotter and removed with a tissue. It is possible for eyelashes to differ in length, thickness, fullness and darkness the number of hairs and direction of growth between eyes. These will usually go if you stop using the serum.
