What is Polynucleotide Treatment?

Polynucleotides are an injectable skin rejuvenation treatment using natural molecules extracted from DNA cells. Since cells contain DNA made up of polynucleotides, injecting these molecules into aged or damaged skin supports tissue regeneration by activating fibroblasts. These are cells essential for forming connective tissue. In essence, polynucleotide injections heal and rejuvenate the skin from within.

Benefits of Polynucleotide Treatment

Our polynucleotide treatments are injectable polymerised polynucleotide-based gels, using wound-healing polymers that offer numerous benefits to your skin:

  • Skin rejuvenation: Over time, polynucleotide treatments help regenerate the skin by boosting collagen and elastin production. Collagen improves fine lines by attracting water and elastin tightens the skin, helping with crepiness.
  • Hydration: They help dull or leathery skin become more hydrated and glowing by attracting more water.
  • Healing properties: polynucleotides reduce redness, calm inflammation and help heal sun-damaged skin, even reducing pigmentation.
  • Versatility: Polynucleotides can be used anywhere on the skin, including around the eyes, on the eyelids, on the face and the body.

Cells have DNA, which is made of polynucleotides. When we inject more polynucleotides into aged and damaged skin cells, they help to regenerate tissue by stimulating fibroblasts – a type of cell that contributes to the formation of connective tissue. Essentially, we are healing skin from within.

How are Polynucleotide treatments carried out?

Polynucleotide treatments are minimally invasive procedures where the product is injected directly into the skin using tiny needles. The technique and depth of injection vary depending on the specific area being treated, for instance, around the eyes, face, neck or other regions.

How safe is the treatment?

Polynucleotide injections are considered very safe when performed by qualified medical professionals. The products used are biocompatible, meaning they work harmoniously with your body’s natural tissues. Side effects are generally mild and temporary, such as slight swelling, redness or bruising. There is a very low risk of allergic reactions and all of our treatments are administered in regulated environments.

How do I know if Polynucleotide treatment is right for me?

Polynucleotide treatments are suitable for most individuals looking to improve skin quality, reduce fine lines, address dullness or support healing of sun-damaged or acne-scarred skin. However, treatment is not recommended if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or have active skin infections or allergies to specific ingredients. We will advise you to avoid extreme temperatures, such as saunas or very cold weather, for around 7 days post-treatment.

How are polynucleotides different to profhilo or dermal filler?

While hyaluronic acid-based products like Profhilo and dermal fillers work by hydrating or volumising the skin, polynucleotides work by stimulating your skin’s natural regeneration process. They act as biostimulators that activate fibroblasts to increase the production of collagen and elastin. Unlike fillers that give immediate volume, polynucleotides improve skin texture, elasticity and tone over time by supporting deeper tissue repair and cellular health.

How much downtime is usually needed and what should I expect?

Downtime is typically minimal. You may experience mild redness, swelling or slight bruising, which generally subsides within 12 to 24 hours. You can usually return to normal activities the following day with little to no disruption.

When will I see results after polynucleotide treatment?

The first signs of improvement often begin around 7-10 days after your first treatment, with the full effects visible at around 3 weeks. This is when we recommend your second and subsequent treatments to take place. By doing so, we maintain continued, active stimulation of fibroblast production, maximising short and long-term results.

Procedure

First your medical history will be taken followed by an examination of your skin concerns. You can discuss whether polynucleotide treatment is suitable for you and address your expectations from treatment. When the treatment has been fully explained you will be required to sign a consent form and a photograph will be taken for your confidential records.

Following cleansing local anaesthetic can be applied if needed.

Polynucleotide treatment will then commence with intra-dermal micro bolus injection or via cannula.

Following treatment you an antiseptic cream or lotion will be applied, normally Clinisept+

Treatment is a safe and effective way of tightening and hydrating your skin.

Your comfort levels and expectations are important factors which are considered in your consultation.
