Micro-needling in Twickenham

At Thames Skin Clinic in Twickenham, we offer advanced micro-needling solutions to treat fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars and stretch marks. Micro-needling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a popular skin rejuvenation treatment designed to stimulate the body’s natural collagen production. At our national-award winning clinic in Twickenham, our expert practitioners use dermapen micro-needling to effectively revitalise your skin.

What is Micro-needling?

Micro-needling involves the use of fine medical-grade needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin, which stimulates your skin’s natural healing process. This triggers the body’s own collagen production to reduce the appearance of:

  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Pigmentation
  • Sunspots
  • Skin texture
  • Stretch marks
  • Skin laxity
  • Scarring from acne, chickenpox or accidents
  • Micro-needling is also used for hair restoration.

By building collagen back into those scarred areas, the skin begins to heal itself.

Collagen

Collagen is the main structural protein found in skin and connective tissue, providing strength, firmness and elasticity to the skin. It’s primarily produced by fibroblast cells in the dermis, the deeper layer of the skin. There are 28 known types of collagen, with Type I collagen making up most of the body’s total collagen.

As we age, collagen production naturally declines, typically starting in our mid-20s. This leads to common signs of ageing, such as thinning skin, wrinkles and sagging skin. Microneedling helps reverse some of these effects by promoting the regeneration of fresh, healthy skin.

Dermapen Micro-needling

There are several leading micro-needling devices available on the market, such as Dermapen, SkinPen and Dermal FNS. At Thames Skin Clinic, we use the Dermapen DMP8, a highly advanced fractional micro-needling device featuring 16 precision needles to create thousands of micro-channels in the skin.

  • Needle depths range from 0.2mm (home use) to 3–4mm (clinic use only).
  • Single-use medical-grade needles ensure hygiene and safety.
  • Treatment enhances absorption of active ingredients.

To boost your results, we combine micro-needling with:

  • Calecim professional growth factors
  • Mesotherapy – a bio-revitalising blend of essential nutrients, vitamins, minerals and amino acids that deeply nourishes and repairs the skin.

We also offer combination treatments, where micro-needling is paired with:

  • Radiofrequency (RF) using Fractora – for enhanced skin tightening and deeper collagen stimulation.
  • Radiofrequency and CO2 laser with Secret PRO – a powerful, cutting-edge option for skin resurfacing and rejuvenation.

A typical course consists of 4–6 sessions, spaced 3–5 weeks apart, depending on your skin goals.

How do I know if micro-needling is right for me?

We will guide you regarding suitable treatment times, it is best to avoid bright sunlight for 3 weeks after treatment. It is not suitable if you are pregnant or breast feeding.

How safe is micro-needling?

Micro-needling at Thames Skin Clinic is very safe when performed by our fully qualified and experienced practitioners. We follow strict medical protocols and use sterile, single-use medical-grade devices like the Dermapen DMP8.

Is micro-needling painful?

Most clients find the treatment comfortable. A local anaesthetic is applied for 30 minutes before micro-needling to minimise discomfort. You may feel slight pressure or a prickling sensation during the procedure. Most patients describe it as a light scratching or tingling. Afterwards, your skin may feel warm and specially selected products will be massaged into your skin to enhance your treatment results. We provide full aftercare advice and apply a premium SPF to the skin for added protection.

Are there any risks with micro-needling?

Micro-needling is a low-risk treatment when performed correctly. To ensure your safety, please provide a full and updated medical history. Rare side effects may include minor redness or swelling, which usually resolves quickly.

How much downtime is needed after micro-needling?

Micro-needling typically has minimal downtime. You may experience redness, mild swelling, or inflammation for 12–24 hours after treatment. Your practitioner will apply a premium SPF and provide aftercare instructions to protect and support your skin’s healing.

Procedure

First your medical history will be taken followed by an examination of your skin concerns. You can discuss whether micro-needling treatment is suitable for you and address your expectations from treatment. When the treatment has been fully explained you will be required to sign a consent form and a photograph will be taken for your confidential records.

Following cleansing your skin local anaesthetic is applied for 30 minutes.

During your microneedling treatment we use award winning growth factor Calecim professional treatment (or a bespoke targeted serum) to accelerate your treatment results and healing.

After your microneedling treatment we apply a soothing cooling mask and a complimentary Dermalux LED phototherapy to further assist rejuvenation and reduce redness as well as assist in some of the treatment concerns such as anti ageing and acne.
