Thames Skin Clinic is known by many as the number one skin specialist in London and the Southeast.

We owe our reputation to the meticulous care and attention we devote to crafting personalized treatment plans tailored to each patient’s unique skincare needs. So today, let’s explore our suite of solutions and how we design personalized acne treatments that have proven highly effective for countless patients.

Let us start by saying that acne is a very common skin concern that many of us will experience at some point in our lives.

Acne, a common skin concern, affects many of us at some point in our lives. It is caused when one’s sebaceous glands (tiny hair follicles) become blocked.

Sebaceous glands lubricate the hair and the skin to stop it drying out. They do this by producing an oily substance called sebum. In acne, the glands begin to produce too much sebum. The excess sebum mixes with dead skin cells and both substances form a plug in the follicle. If the plugged follicle is close to the surface of the skin, it bulges outwards, creating a whitehead. Alternatively, the plugged follicle can be open to the skin, creating a blackhead. Normally harmless bacteria that live on the skin can then contaminate and infect the plugged follicles, causing papules, pustules, nodules, or cysts.

Acne flare-ups can be caused by a myriad of reasons: certain medications, hormone changes, cosmetic products, smoking, diet, or simply genetics. What is certain is that sexual activity or hygiene are not contributing factors, Most of the biological reactions that trigger acne occur beneath the skin, not on the surface, so the cleanliness of your skin does not affect your acne. Washing your face more than twice a day could just aggravate your skin further.

With the help of a trained specialist, your skin can improve.

It’s natural to feel frustrated or embarrassed by breakouts but rest assured, you’re not alone. Statistics reveal that 48 percent of people* have experienced acne, with 19 percent of adults over 25 reporting adult acne.* At Thames Skin Clinic, we understand these challenges and offer tailored solutions to address them.

Under the guidance of our skilled specialists, significant improvements in skin condition are achievable. By devising personalized regimens and offering expert guidance, we aim to minimize acne breakouts or even halt them altogether. With the right support, your skin can indeed improve, reducing the frequency and severity of acne breakouts.

Acne Treatment Options at Thames Skin

We have numerous energy devices and treatments that we use to improve the texture, tone, and overall health of our patient’s skin.

AviClear is the newest tool in our arsenal of acne solutions; and one of the most powerful. It’s the world’s first FDA-approved acne laser treatment and we are one of just five clinics outside of the US with access to its power.  It’s truly a game-changer in tackling acne at its source. For patients with mild to severe acne, we recommend a course of three treatments for three months.

Thames Skin have a whole arsenal of tools to ease active acne

In support of your in-clinic acne treatments, we will commonly prescribe you medical grade for you to take home. Our partners Zo Skin Health have been carefully chosen to provide you with powerfully effective products curated especially to bring out the best in your skin. The range of medicated skincare can be prescribed by Dr Anna for you to use at home, greatly increasing the probability of long-term results.

Thames Skin offers HydraFacial treatments for those seeking a deeply hydrating spa day for your skin. The calming 45-minute treatment can soothe mild acne breakouts and restore one’s natural glow. We also utilize HydraRadiance and Obagi Blue Peel Radiance, a combination of Hydrafacial and Blue Peel Radiance designed to gently pamper your skin to perfection.

Our Laser Genesis device is also popular amongst acne sufferers; as it reduces acne bacteria, stimulating collagen production, and bidding farewell to pesky redness. And the legendary HydraGenesis combining our Green genesis with HF.

Treating the after-effects of acne

In our skin suite of treatments, we also cater to the side effects and aftereffects connected with acne. So for those concerned with redness and thread veins left by spots, we have the Cutera Excel V+ treatment; and microneedling for scarring and texture improvement.

We also provide the Secret Pro CO2 laser treatment, along with Secret RF (Radiofrequency & Microneedling), to combat scarring in the gentlest yet most effective way.

For those who want to explore oral medications, we can provide this route too.

Whichever course of action you choose to take is entirely up to you. We are a patient-centric clinic and only proceed with treatment if you are entirely happy with your choice.  We offer a symphony of treatments, so no matter your preference or the severity of your acne, we will certainly be able to treat you safely and effectively.

It’s what makes Thames Skin Clinic the leading skin and aesthetics clinic in Twickenham and the South East.
