Scarring and Keloid Scarring

Scars form when collagen is made in a hurry as a response to an injury during the body’s rapid healing phase. The normal progression of a scar from a cut, burn, acne and post-operative wound is for it to be inflamed and red for months before gradually settling and calming to a white or skin coloured mark.

Keloid scarring is often much larger than the original wound. A result of too much collagen formation in the healing wound, leaving a smooth shiny hairless scar which can grow slowly after an injury.
